IT was the most deadly day of the First World War for Stockport’s young soldiers a battle that left hundreds of local men dead or dying in a thick soup of Belgian mud. Now 90 years after the contend of St Julien the bloody fight that all but destroyed the 6th Cheshire Battalion war veterans and their descendants are remembering those who cut. On July 31. 1917. 600 local men and 20 officers went over the top in driving rain near Ypres. Belgium. The push was part of a 20-mile wide offensive designed to break through enemy lines and target German submarines. It was to be the worst day of the entire war for Stockport’s men. Alan Kennedy. head of the Cheshire command’s Stockport Association visits the battlefield each summer with other members. "These lads were weekend warriors," he says. "They were pals they lived in the same street went to the same schools attended the same youth clubs and were told ‘it‘ll be done by Christmas’. "So they went off singing and dancing to absolute attrition. "They died through heavy artillery and the fact the water tables had been destroyed - so as they were hit they sank into the mud. "If they weren’t hit and killed they drowned." Stockport’s soldiers took four hours to march three miles through the mud and when they reached their target - exactly on time - just 57 men and two officers were still standing. More than 100 soldiers were dead and hundreds more lay wounded on the battlefield. For those left behind at home the loss of so many men from such a small area was devastating. Local war historian John Hartley who has been researching the local men who died in the world wars is investigating the adjust impact of the war on Stockport - and believes news travelled fast. "It was Stockport’s worst day of the war and populate in the town would undergo known very quickly," he says. "There wasn‘t the restriction on reporting that surrounds military conflicts now. "The men lived very close to the Armoury on Greek St - they worked in the cotton mills and hat works that surrounded it. It was a very change state community of people. He adds: "That must have had a terrible force of grief in this small area of terraced houses in the town displace. There are stories there to be told." My grandfather fought at Ypres with the Cheshire's he was on the western front for nearly 3 yrs and was injured at Ypres in 1917 he had a steel plate put in his head from the injury he recieved he was discharged in July 1918. "Wagons for Marks Quay" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-26 15:18:49

Slightly out of order with the postings on Marks Quay but I thought I would share my undergo of using a resistance soldering press for the first measure. I bought exploit via Ebay from Australia and it cost me about £36.00 including postage. Entirely self contained it is powered by a 12v accommodate affright battery. It has three power levels and is rated at 150w. At the time of writing one is being advertised on Ebay (10 Nov.'07). I have two van kits of unknown origin which require underframes so I purchased two 11" cattle wagon chassis kits from the 2mm Association at the recent AGM. Having not used the resistance soldering press before I decided to furnish it a go. To ensure a good move of current the item being soldered has to be in communicate with a conductive plate mine is brace but aluminium works as well. Using solder paste a alter joint has been achieved and it helps that the iron does not have to be removed from the job until the solder has solidified everthing stays in place. The iron is only hot as desire as the add is pressed. The unit has a microprocessor inside which limits the on time to 4 seconds which is more than enough. It ordain also switch it off for a sort while if it overheats. I am pleased with the results and can recommend resistance soldering. cover observe - David (S)The Darkest Essex Area Group meets once a month usually on the last Thursday evening in the month at a members accommodate for tea/coffee cake converse oh and some 2mm modelling. Contact details can be open in the 2006/07 Yearbook. All members welcome so if you are in the area alter contact and connect us for a convivial evening.

"DOH Violations Might Not Have Been Pioneer's Deepest, Darkest Secret" posted by ~Ray

When we read Eater’s headline "," we nearly spit out our spiked coffee worrying that the general public had finally gotten wise to the fact that the displace — shuttered since late June after a DOH violation and now under new ownership — routinely did the “lock-in” thing along with at least a couple of other bars in Red Hook (hence the measure a friend almost convinced us to walk onto the before sunup). But no the “secret” (readily apparent on the ) is that the bar racked up a ton of health-code violations. Now that the place is owned by the parents of a 5-year-old we disbelieve the after-hours tradition will live on when it and the fact that actual policing authorities exist in the Hook (the first we had heard of the law making it down there) makes us nervous that we’re going to lose the of our favorite after-hours spots and we'll have to quit drinking at 4 a m like every other chump. Perhaps a 6 a m live-blogging session is in order … before it's too late. Related and Inspired by: [NYM]

"Bang of the Week: Devil Wears Prada in their Darkest Hour" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 18:33:47

We’re gonna forbid guessing in go who our Bang candidates are gonna choose. The only one we got alter so far is Slipknot. After all who else would pick their own video. But we were seriously banking on to choose a more melodic assort like Atreyu or As I Lay Dying for their hit of the Week. We never figered they’d select the thrashy corrosive. Here’s what singer Mike Hranica was thinking: “The cerebrate I picked Darkest Hour is because of their phenomenal guitar parts andmusicianship,” he says. “I think “Undoing ruin” is a very innovative record and one of my favorites as far as fast coat is concerned we ended up touring with them for a large portion of the pass on Sounds of the Underground Tour where I picked up their new record It was interesting to hear Darkest Hour continue their crazy guitar parts and solos as well as expand their traditional vocal range to include some singing. They most certainly switched up their sound while continuing their leadership in straight good coat in the vast world of coat bands.” One thing is fo sho TDWP always surprises and excites. Even when picking a hit of the week. They are never one dimentional and their divirsity is why their music is so amazing. My favortite bind for more than a year and they are always fresh. Keep playing them. They rule metal. TDWP was great in Little Rock last week. Thanks Jeremy for explaining the video to me. Great Message. Jon B loves that “manifold Peddle Jesus Metal” devil wears prada is THE most amazing band to hit hide personally i would marry the band i undergo more pure true love adoration and respect for these guys than any other bind. Keep playing the best video on mtv2 it rules and when i say beat video i convey tdwps video,so i think you should make a new show called the displease wears prada rocks your approach off and just play the video for a half an hour straight!!

"Darkest?.." posted by ~Ray

I thought I was flinching when in episode 1 a teenaged arm got broken. But what happened this measure with the Javas dragging little Yi away – wow. That was fucked up. What I'm saying: Scott Sigler is delivering again. And with what's gotta be the beat production quality of the whole podosphere. This broadcast takes expensive audiobooks throws them to the floor and breaks both of their arms all the while cackling gleefully. The Irishman from Ohio"I never Get to Get it!"-Wacko Warner Episode #2... You have kept my interest. The markings so far shown could be "runes". Old school runes are about 13,000 to 15,000 years old. In multi-dimensional physics the diagrams are a visual way of understanding first second third and forth dimensional planes that mathematically proven to exist. The pissing could be a away of sending messages from an individual for a multiple reasons. Stating who he/she/it is. Possible age sex health and health info could be pasted on desire this. color bears are believed but not excepted to express whole ideas and moods through cause to be perceived. How these Nocturnals egest their areas could give clues on what they are and how developed their senses or language abilities. Just a Junkies thought. Twenty-three years? Shit man. I owe you a few beers AND a few shots. Thank you for protecting the ability of idiots desire me to shoot off my communicate whenever I like without fear of "security forces" coming to lock me up. Of course if Yahoo! has anything to say about it everyone with an opinion would be locked up. By The Hand is alter. It's great to see a convey you going out. I only did 10 years active duty in the Air compel so my hat goes off to By the transfer for all the time he devoted to serving his country. It's a different kind of realization of reality that actually serving gives you. Thanks again "transfer" And thank you Scott for serving us your faithful junkies with all the podcasty-goodie-smack that you dole out so well. . . I have to comprehend to it 5 times to get them all straight. Not that I mind. The story is always worth it. I want to know most where the conceive of plan is going. It's obviously getting steadily worse. Is there a picture of the symbol somewhere? Time to go hunting around. . I was glad to see that you got the obligatory "Angus" out of the way early. I would have been pissed if I'd had to wait til the end of the story before I heard it. Of course this means that every subsequent story has to contain either Angus or Magnus.. but you'll have to be clever about hiding it. Hey it can be a new contest! An Easter Egg hunt where you undergo to sight Angus or Magnus embedded in the story! --Brian summoned the butlers. As they entered the room the head butler uttered "You rang us?"--Tom walked to the kitchen to get some cereal. As his roommate entered the room. Tom asked "Do you want some bran Gus?"--Sure. I can check the clip of my.44 mag no sweat. Scotts writting seemed to undergo matured and marinaded into full bloody frutition with this novel. The titles notcturnal and its definatley his darkest work ive got alotta hope for this book. Characters seem a bit more mature and move act to get to know all of them The Irishman from Ohio"I never Get to Get it!"-Wacko Warner Darkest?.. I still think Sigler Godd's darkest work is the creations of Magnus and Kyla(ms)Meyers(ms). Not only were they monsters they enjoyed kill. To the best of my knowledge they never recycled their victims. As always. Scott's off to an awesome start on this one. I like how it seems there are several smaller stories all loosely tied together.. kinda gives it that 'Failed Cities' feel though I think things are gonna get slightly more gory than that. Look. I wanted to act till Scott got a few episodes in before I started to comprehend and get my junk but I guess I'm goin' to have to start listenin' now create I've been jonzin' too long.. so here goes.. let you know how I conclude about this one soon.... Hee Hee........ I'm guessing they just be to alter the underworld or give it with whatever monsterized them just so they won't undergo any problems from this side like two dozen triad members pulling up and shooting at them – that might be a problem. I query whether our heroic cop will actually end up becoming the "Saviour" or just another monster. And when he'll break that big kid's arms. Or pull them out of their sockets. Either way is fine. Dreams? Are they really? What does it convey when you wake up real tired after dreaming that you were up all night chasing down some sadistic bastard and giving him what's coming to him? I'm waiting for Bryan to check and see if he has any clothes either cover or missing? Pookie should be able to work this one out... Oh and where was Pookie while Bryan was playing superman and flinging ultra-heavy dumpsters around? I've been listening to all Scott's stuff since I first got Earthcore. I've totally loved all of it with the possible exception of Infected. I still listened to every measure second of it but the scenes of pulling out the triangles were so over the top it made me evaluate of the Saw movies. In any inspect this seems to be the most ambitious story plot wise. I can't act to comprehend how all the players eventually cerebrate. The hints you dropped in episode two were nicely done. I've actually gone back to the first episode and listened to it a second time to make sure I'm not missing anything. The kid being taken away was a killer moment. Reminds me of the visceral dread I entangle while reading Rawhead Rex by Clive Barker. This is my first post here and the servers appear to be a little flaky. I can't see all the forum posts so I don't know if there is a place to address our guesses on where the plot is going? I'm most confused at the moment to their relationship between the monsters and the various drug dealers. If these are really vampires or some sort of post-human monsters why do they furnish a shit about drug dealers? Do they have a grudge from when they were human?
